The book is saying to coat the head gasket with commercial sealing compound or cup grease anybody know what their talking about? Can i use rtv gasket sealant?[/i]

You really don?t need to with modern gaskets. I have used head gasket copper spray in the past, but, again you don?t need to. I do use a thin amount of
rtv on the oil pan to hold gasket in place, also on the valve cover nothing on the engine side.

Cup Grease is wheel bearing grease and a very thin coat works great to help the gasket slide into final position as it is tightened.
Wheel bearing grease for your machine is the short fiber type of wheel bearing grease. I did it on my head gasket that resembled graphite
gray asbestos for the lack of a better description.
I used copper seal on my 460 Ford head gaskets.

Don't use RTV, wrong all around.

I would not use any sealer, maybe a coat of silver aluminum spray paint if anything.

Preping the surfaces, clean down to bare metal, head checked for flatness, and above all, the cylinder liner to deck height (.002-.0045) above the block deck is very critical.

The studs need to be wire brushed free of rust, nuts tapped or replaced, threads oiled, torque to spec, then retorqued on first start up to temperature.

Do all this, it will seal.
