Massey Ferguson 65

Hi, I just bought a Massey Ferguson 65. I thought the pto speed was a little slow. Today it will not even turn?? Is there an easy fix to this? WHat could it be? Any help would be muchly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure you had the gear shift lever it in the right position?

Pull it up for engine PTO.

Middle position is neutral.

Push it down for ground PTO.

Hello wjytexas, Not sure if it is adjusted properly. From another thread on this forum, I see that there are three bolts that need about .090 clearance at the head of the bolt. I guess that is a good a place to start as any. I looked under the tractor and see that there is what looks to be a 4 bolt inspection plate missing. Going to get it in the shop and have a look see if I can see anything.

Hello Boss Hog, Yes I had it in the right position as it was working but very slow. It would not do a
very good job with the brush mower that I had on it. You could see that it was not turning up to speed
even though I revved the engine right up. On a side note, when I try to put the pto lever in the engine
pto position, the gears just grind, no matter what I do, clutch in or out. Seems there would be no way to
put it in the engine pto position unless maybe I try it with the engine off.

If it only grinds when you try to put it in the engine PTO position, I don't think there's much doubt that your clutch is either way out of adjustment or pretty well shot.

Guess you could shut the engine off, engage the engine PTO, start it, and see what happened.
