I have a quick question to ask of you experts. I am in the process of rebuilding my Fergie and am planning on changing the exhaust from horizontal to vertical due to fire season in the summer and snow in the winter. Question is.... Can I reuse my horizontal exhaust setup and modify it to be a vertical one? Wasn't sure if it required a different muffler.

Thanks,

Don

I suppose you could reuse the muffler, but it might be a little long and heavy.

Keep in mind your clearances under trees and doors if you keep it inside.

Weight is a concern. There is a lot of unsupported weight standing up there with nothing to really support it. A short, light muffler, mounted low, with just enough extension pipe to keep the exhaust out of your face is the goal.

When fitting the connections together, try to always have the top extension overlap the muffler, the muffler overlap the U pipe. The object is to shed rain water. That would be a drawback to using the old muffler. It probably has a rolled on end that would trap water, eventually rust out, funnel water into the engine. Never trust a rain cap for extended outdoor storage.

Outstanding! That's just what I wanted to know. In that case I'll just purchase a new one and fabricate some support brackets.

Thanks,

Don
