I'm waiting on a new radiator I just ordered for my to30 and I want to know is should I do something to flush out the engine block, like with a garden hose? I just was wondering since a new radiator and I know there is probably some crud in there that will in turn flow into the new radiator that wont be good for it. I know there is the drain cock on the side of the block and the top neck, plus the lower one thats part of the water pump. Should I open the drain cock and run just water through the top neck.?

To get a good flush, you'll need to temporarily remove the thermostat.

There is a drain plug. If it will come out chances are it will be clogged with sediment and will need to be prodded out with a stiff wire.

If you can get creative, try to attach the garden hose to the water pump. Doesn't have to be perfect, just good enough to flood the water pump with water. Or sit the old radiator back in, temporary the lower hose to the pump and let the hose run in the radiator.

Start it up, set it for medium throttle, let it run until clear. You'll want to attach a hose to the thermostat housing to direct the water away from the fan.

PS: You may want to keep the old radiator for future use if it is original. Sometimes the aftermarket radiators don't fit well and can be short lived. Be sure to transfer the fan shroud to the new radiator. Check for fan clearance, check for front axle clearance when it is fully pivoted. Make sure the lower mount bolt heads don't touch the tank.

My aftermarket radiator was a bit difficult to get the shroud on. It is a bit narrower and needed some shims o make it work. Also had to trim some of the shroud as the bottom tube was different and would not clear the shroud.
