Sudden lift loss

While a friend was using his Fergy the Three Point Lift suddenly lost lift. The key word here is 'suddenly'. It tries but no go.

The pump has recently been overhauled, including a new safety valve and control valve and the lift cylinder got a new piston with the O-ring.

What would be the likely cause?

Try lifting the arms by hand a few times pushing them down hard after each lift. Chances are a stray bit of grit has jammed the valve or is stopping it from seating . The rush of oil can dislodge the trouble. Worked for me on my FE35.

Dan S.It is either a TO20 or TO30. I'm wondering if the control linkage has slipped out of adjustment. He says it tries to come up but that's all.

Possible area of foreign material located...?

The pump gasket that seals the stand pipe could have failed. Also make sure the control arms haven't come off the valve in the pump.

I would take off the right side cover and use a light to look for any leaks. Don't reach inside with your hands with the tractor running! You can also try using a dowel or long screwdriver through the side cover to move the control arms and see if that will raise the lift.

Dan S. You may have hit the nail on the head. When the pump was being installed the gasket took a bit of a beating. If the part of the gasket that serves to seal the stand pipe suffered it may have only held for a while then blew out entirely.

John Deere D, thanks a lot for the pictures.
