Generator RF?

I have a to-20 with original 6 volt generator system. My son just told me today that as soon as I started the tractor the TV signal switched to "no signal" and as soon as I turned it off the TV got signal back. I receive over the air TV from an antenna about 30 feet above the ground. Sound crazy?
 
Copper sparkplug wires will create lots of electrical noise. Noise suppression is helped by using carbon sparkplug wires which is not recommended for your tractor. I believe resistor plugs also helped reduce noise. Sometimes capacitors on generating system were used to reduce electrical noise.
 
I don't know when or if the brushes were ever replaced, I've only had tractor for a year, it came with some excellent service records but I did not see any generator service receipts.
 
He's pretty good with that tractor, i'd have to say he enjoys riding it and cutting the grass, I just can't wait for "his time" to do it. But, I'm gonna tell him that one.
 
Spark plug wires are your culprit. As was mentioned, the copper core wires are your problem. They are best for the 6V system.
Carbon core wires wth more resistance are used with newer cars and create no noise. You could try condensers in the system, but I do not believe that will eliminate the noise from copper wires.
 
I'm not concerned about it, i'm keeping the wires just the way they are and glad to know they are quality copper wires. The TV will have to wait until I move from the antenna area. Just saying that's some pretty powerful stuff there.
