What type of fluid/oil do I put in steering box of 1948 Ferguson TE20/

Originally it probably had 90 or 140 weight gear oil.

Chances are if you put that in, it will leak out the pittman seals.

A common substitute is 00 grade cartridge grease. Also known as corn head grease.

It is a semi fluid grease, thin enough not to channel away from the gears, but thick enough to stay in less than perfect seals.

Just replace the fill plug with a grease fitting, pump it full.
