Grill restore vs reproduction

I?m in the process of rebuilding another TO30 and this tractor has so many original parts that it is beca full restoration. The original grill has the standard rust cancer on the bottom. When I took it off, original bots too I needed to make the decision whether to replace or restore. I don?t have the welding skill to do it justice, so I took it to a guy I know who does amazing work with all kinds of old equipment. His price was $100 more than a replacement so I opted for him to do the work.

The pictures are of a reproduction that I already had and the original after his work. The repop has some differences, the crank hole is smaller, the fold on top does not fit the hood like original and of course the metal is thinner. I just need to do a small amount of body fill to finish the job and I think I made the right decision. When finished it will be bettthan 95% original

I have a TO35 too and had to do the same thing. Not the same fit as original but needed it and made it fit.

The welds were kept recessed on the front for just a bit of fill to make a smooth finish. I?ll post pics when done
