TO35 tachometer

Need a recommendation for a digital tachometer for my TO35 4 cylinder gas tractor. I tried the cheap $20 Chinese type without success. I'm now thinking a new alternator with a mechanical tach drive. Any suggestions appreciated...

If you can get back to the mechanical tach, all the better.

If you want to go electric, look at marine applications. They are better suited to weather exposure and shock.

Be sure whatever you get is in the proper RPM range, which is hard to find.
