If it's properly adjusted, and still sometimes fails to release, it could be the disc is nearing the end of it's life.

When new, there are grooves cut in the friction material. The grooves serve as a "vacuum break" to keep the disc from sticking to the pressure plate/flywheel surfaces. Once the grooves are worn away, the flat surfaces tend to stick momentarily when released.

Also an oily clutch will tend to stick, sometimes the spline on the input shaft will get worn and cause the disc to bind against one surface or the other, a dry or failed pilot bearing will transfer drive to the input shaft, a warped pressure plate, bad release lever, separated disc can all cause clutch release problems or chattery, jerky engagement.

Finally something as simple as the engine idling too fast, or trying to shift with the engine at speed, even the transmission being low on oil (the oil acts as a brake to slow the coasting transmission) can cause slow release and gear grinding.

Anyone know where I can get a good copy of the manual that Bob referenced above? Even a PDF with decent scans?

I bought the workshop and owner's manuals advertised here on YT; but the photos and illustrations are such poor scans that I often can't figure out what I'm looking at. And neither of them have that section on adjusting the clutch pedal.

Good evening Randall.

I shall share with you how I ended up with two great Harry Ferguson TEA-20 Service Manuals:

Sometime around 2007 I decided I would like a "HARRY FERGUSON TEA-20 SERVICE MANUAL:

I entered various phrases and or catch words on the Internet. I recall entering "TEA-20 Ferguson SERVICE MANUAL"

An address appeared in / from "ENGLAND" stating there was a FERGUSON SERVICE MANUAL for sale on e-bay..."England". I contacted the seller, sent him an INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDER...and yes the Manual arrived here in Western Canada. (Green Manual...Reprint) This Manual is a re-print that I'm totally satisfied with....:)

What was the total Cost ?....that was 12 years ago......:)

Last October I was on the Internet and entered "TEA-20 Ferguson Service Manual Kijiji"

Kijiji is an electronic buy and sell here in CANADA:

An add directed me to ONTARIO CANADA on the electronic buy and sell known as ...kijiji

There was an ORIGINAL Harry Ferguson "BLUE BOOK" 1953....Tea-20 service Manual listed for sale:

I contacted the owner of said Service Manual, and was informed the Service manual was probably sold to and individual who was representing an association that restores old machinery....however, if there is no money produced in the next 24 hrs. the Manual was mine:

I send payment and the Service Manual arrived in five days....cost....$125.00...

If I should happen to run across the supplier in England I shall post the info:

Approximately 2>3 years ago, someone was advertising brand new Ferguson "BLUE BOOKS "on the Australian e-bay: Indications they were of top quality.

Thanks, Bob.

Not quite the answer I was hoping to hear, but such is life. Actually quite helpful, since for some strange reason it didn't occur to me to search eBay in other countries. Gettin old, I guess.

Thanks again,
Randall
