TO35 hydraulic fluid question

My 1955 TO35 (gas) was underwater during Hurricane Florence. I have drained the hydraulic fluid from both compartments and added about 7 gallons of 80 weight gear oil however the dip stick does not show any fluid. I'm going to wait a day and see if the fluid shows up in the compartment where the dip stick is - dip stick is in the rear, fluid added to the front. Is this unusual? I've never changed hydraulic fluid before - service usually done by local Massey dealer.

Also - does anyone know engine oil capacity? I have the model with the continental gas engine.

Thank you!

It will hold 8 gallons.

The level is up to the bottom bolt hole of the round inspection cover below the seat.

Too late now, but when filling through the fill plug on top of the transmission, oil should be poured in very slowly to allow it to transfer to the mid and differential sections. Adding too much too quick can dump oil into the clutch if the front seal is bad.

The engine holds 5 quarts.

Have you done anything in the meantime to get the water out of the engine?

Sitting that long without running, it may have more problems than just needing the oil changed!

If it was completely submerged, or even partially, there will be many more places that need to be serviced, like wheel bearings, steering, fuel system, etc.
