resetting governor

so i have to replace the front crank seal on my to20. i have done a search of the forums and am only able to find reference about this from John (UK), but i dont know if he is still here on this forum, and was curious, does anyone have information on this procedure? on another note, is it safe to jack up the front of the tractor under the oil pan, or will the oil pan crumple under the weight? seems there is a picture in the manual of this(jacking up from under the front of the oil pan), but it just doesnt sit well with me, doesnt seem like the oil pan would carry the weight well, but maybe the steel they used is thicker and will? whats everyones thoughts on this, safe, or not? thanks!

Jack up under the bell housing and you will be fine never the oil pan. If all you are doing is replacing the front seal you need to move the front end out
of the way. As far as setting the Governor get a manual either here or tractor supply they have the IT manuals which are good for a lot of repairs.

as i stated in my post, i do have a manual, the dealer shop manual (blue one), and in the section about the governor, it states that you dont have to wheel the front end away, just unbolt the front end bracket and jack the tractor up so you can access the crank pulley. it shows a picture of what looks like a floor jack on the front of the oil pan to lift the tractor up, thats why i was asking about the oil pan. i know that the manual states what to do with the governor, but i was curious what people actually did, because sometimes its different than the manual, and you cant always trust the manual fully, the picture of what looks to be using a jack under the oil pan for example :wink: thanks for your input, i will keep it in mind!

I think I have the same manual and figure 108 sure looks like under the oil pan, but I?m sure it just looks that way and is under the bell housing. As for
the governor setting, I think the IT manual is clearer to follow.

does the TO20 have a flyweight governor rather than the ball/cone setup?

according to my manual, it is a flyweight governor, and the to30 tos the ball type. if im reading correctly, they are interchangable, and adjust the same. not sure what ive got exactly, will find out when i open it up in the next few days.
