so got fergusson running with new valve spring. thanks for the info worked great. set tappets also. now in changing oil the filter I got thru tractor supplier is longer than the one in the canister. it is 6 inch long can anyone tell correct demensions as it looks like someone has played around in this area,

How much longer is the new oil filter?

Is there a spring and washer located with in the Canister?

Does canister mount VERTICAL or rather at a 45 deg angle slopping to the rear of the engine?

yes there is a spring in bottom of canister. washer has been brazed to spring which doesn't seem normal to me. and canister is at an angle. it is 2.6 wide 6 inch long old one is a little wider and shorter
