TO-30 Oil pan installation question

I am about to reinstall the oil pan on my Ferguson 30. I have a new gasket from Steiner, but can someone tell me if I need to use a sealant on either the block side or pan side of the new gasket? Or both sides? If a sealant is needed, what type is recommended?

In most cases I use a light coat of silicone gasket marker on both sides. The first coat of it I use to glue it to the pan so as not to have it move when your installing the pan. I coat the pan then set the gasket on and set the bolts into the pan to hold the gasket in place while the silicone sets up. Once it is set up as in 10-15 minutes coat the gasket and install it.

I use #2 Permatex on pan side only. Use a light coat. This holds gasket in place until
you get pan set and bolts in. Don't use #1 Permatex it will get hard so when you ever
remove pan the gasket will have to be scraped off. #2 doesn't get hard but holds
good.

Auto makers use gray RTV on oil pans and such.
