To20 oil filter

My to20 was rebuilt 30 years ago by a reputable tractor shop, all these years of oil changes I never knew the spring was positioned wrong. My tractor always ran about 25 lbs.of pressure but now that Napa gold 1107 is discontinued I'm not sure what to do. I'm not up to dropping the pan,so what would happen if you don't use a spring? Was this done this way on purpose? Was this an old trick used by the old mechanics to bost oil press? Not at all sure what to do, but can't use this newer style filter with the spring. Any idea's?

Hi James
I think I have a new Massey filter for the TO 20 if you are interested? Why can you not use the newer style filter? Where is your original spring?

Thanks Wayne, guess I forgot to say that instead of the spring being on top of the filter cup, someone installed it on top of the filter. The old Napa filters had recessed ends which could allow the use of my spring. I'm thinking about reusing the old filter.I searched archives and found other people found springs installed in wrong locations also. Just curious as to why some engine builders didn't install it between bearing cap and filter cup like Harry Ferguson designed it.
