Z134 engine rod cap alignment

All
I was reassembling my engine and found someone
has marked both sides of the rod caps. I know
small block chevys have the insert tabs both to
same side. This engine main caps can only go in
one way and they have the insert tabs on opposite
sides. Now I looked at my service manual and it
states be sure to align the rod designation marks to
same side. With both sides if rod caps stamped.
I?m at a loss
Thanks again for all the help you guys have given
me

Well, I can't remember if the locks go together or opposite. I want to say they go together, but don't tale my word for it. I do remember the oil squirt hole in the rod goes away from the cam.

Look closely at the stamped numbers. Chances are the factory marks will be straight and made by a different style stamp. Also look very closely at the mating surfaces. There will be clues, a print left from where the lock tab was touching the flat on the mating surface, also stains, nicks, discolorations that can be matched.

I once put together a small block Chevy basket case that came in unmarked by matching up the caps by the stain marks. It worked!

The oil hole goes away from distributor (1 pic) and bearing locks(#2 pic) goes opposite sides of each other. Numbers on rods-caps goes toward the distributor. This way you can take set of numbers off rods.Hope this helps.
