TEA20 engine seems too tight

Apologies as I know that my terminology will be incorrect, but I?ve replaced my cylinder sleeves and pistons with a Bare and Co kit to fix water in my oil. I?ve got the sleeves and pistons back in, and I?ve oiled it but when I tighten the rod nuts down, the engine is very tight. I can only just turn the large starter gear by hand. It takes a great deal of pressure. Everything looks fine. How hard should it be to turn the crankshaft?

Did you check the Connecting Rod Bearing clearances, either Plastigue and or an outside micrometers and an inside micrometer?

What was the Piston Rings END GAP?

Are all Connecting Rod CAPS matched to the appropriate Connecting Rod?

Are all Connecting Rod Caps (numbers on Caps aligned with numbers on Connecting Rods?

Torque on Connecting rod Bolts?

Did you check the bearing shells CRUSH?

Are all connecting rod shells lubricated?

(quoted from post at 09:06:30 10/28/18) All liners must be securely held in place:
Just i case you are unaware, the engine should look like this, until the head is on and torqued.

Otherwise you need to start over. It will leak coolant into the oil.

If it tightens down only when the rod caps are tight, something is seriously wrong.

Check the bearing caps that they are on the correct rods and in the correct position.

Check the crank journal diameter against the rod inserts. They must be sized to the crank.

Putting an engine up too tight will always result in failure. Expensive failure!

Thanks everyone. Seems I had the bearings on in the wrong direction. Turns beautiful now! Very happy. Putting rest together now, so I might be back.
