Hello folks.
New member, and new Ferguson owner.
I just bought some property and a mid-50's Ferguson came with it. The previous owner thinks it is a '56. It looks to be in very good condition, but I know essentially nothing about it. I've spent about 20 minutes on it.
The problem: While reversing it sounds like it's grinding rocks. It goes into gear without a problem. No noises as long as the clutch is depressed. No noise in any forward gear. I haven't tried reversing in high range, if that matters.
The property is 3 hours from my full time life, and I'm working on finding a local mechanic to look at it. The previous owner didn't say anything about this, and he hasn't yet responded to a message sent. I'm no mechanic, but mechanical minded. Pretty sure this is above my pay grade.
Until these thing happen, how concerned should I be about using it? How difficult is this likely repair, besides the physical separation of the halves? AKA expected repair costs.
Anything else I should know about this model??
Thanks for any help you can give.
