Ferguson starter won't mount...

Hi all,
I've picked up a couple fergy 28's, one of them runs well, the other one I've just been able to start today. The first is ID by air cleaner mounted on dash, other one appears to be the 80mm tractor(but didn't come with a starter).
I have found though that I cant fit a starter on as the engine starter mount will only accommodate the 12v starter, but bell housing only takes the 6v starter. There are also a few bolts missing around starter...someone has mixed a '28' engine with a '24' tranny...
How can I mount a 6v starter onto this engine, mounted on a fergy 24 tranny? I'd appreciate any help!
Thanks!
Joshua

I've seen a few botched attempts but mainly trying to fit 12 volt starters onto six volt bell housings . They truly are horrible , with big cut out sections in the casting to accommodate the longer 12 volt pinion .
Your biggest trouble will be the ring gear , six volt starters pull backwards into the ring gear and so there is a bevel on the gear teeth at the rear to make meshing smoother .
Twelve volt starters push into the ring gear , the bevel is on the front for the same reasons .
Your efforts would be better spent in fitting a twelve volt starter , I think you should be able to line one of the bolt holes up from memory . Otherwise an adapter plate might work .

TEA 20 Factory 12 Volts Starter..

Starters are NOT really Interchangeable..

Now with some Jerry Rigging yes...the installation I have seen look a bit like a "MUTT"

rewind to voltage you want or just use a voltage capacitor reducer if the main battery is 12 volt for a 6 volt starter.
