TO 20 alternator brackets

I have a TO 20 that I’d like to put a 12 volt alternator on. It currently has a generator on it. It looks like we will have to fabricate brackets for the alternator. I was hoping someone here would have done this before and give advice as to what they attached each bracket to and made from or post a picture of what they did to mount the alternator. We will be using a Delco 10si normal alternator not a 1 wire. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I do not know that tractor as such but on many tractor one can flip the generator bracket and then use a long bolt to hold the alternator in place. On many I have done I used 3/8th all tread that way I could make sure it would stay tight and be long enough to hold well

I did it once to a TO30. Not a TO20. I removed the bottom bracket completely and made a new one from flat stock about 3/16 thick. I do remember on the TO 30 I had to move the alternator out away from the governor rod.

Here are a few pictures I took before I started working on my TO-20, so I could remember how things went back together.
A previous owner had done the 12-volt conversion, which included what looks like a homemade bracket. It works fine. (I think I've seen a template for that bracket somewhere online, but I can't remember where.)
I can take more photos, if that would help. I don't know how mounting would differ for a one-wire vs. two-wire.

Thanks for the replies, the pictures really helped a lot. The top bracket was what was confusing me the most. I see you bolted it to the top water pump bolt and then notched it to clear the governor linkage. That is what I needed to see, I will have to make a similar bracket and notch it for the linkage.
I didn’t think the 1 vs 3 wire alternator would mount different. I just included that info Incase someone mentioned how to wire it up. If I put a ballast resistor before the coil, it’s 6 volt, that should work with the 12 volt shouldn’t it?
Thanks again for the info and pics, it really helps a lot to see what someone else has done to make it work. Now I have a good idea how to start.

You can modify the generator bracket or make your own. Not too difficult with basic metal fab skills.

Watch for interference in the governor linkage and the top bracket.

Take your time and get everything straight. The lower bracket should be capable of tightening down against the alternator case to stop vibration of the case against the pivot bolt.

Something to try, see if the generator pulley will fit the alternator, most will. That way you can keep the proper width belt.

Thanks for the tip about the generator pulley, didn’t realize it may fit the alternator.
