Used a sure seal to stop a leaking seal on my 1948 TE 20. Axle was difficult to get out of the axle housing. Next time will make up some type of slide hammer to remove the axle. Wanted to know how others on the forum have removed the axles on their TE 20"s. Some good you tube videos by " Bundy Bear " but unable to fine a you tube video on removing the axle from the axle housing.
Used a piece of 3 inch heavy PVC over top of the axle to install the seal. Someone on the forum gave me the idea of using a piece of pvc. Cut a piece of 3 inch pvc to extend over top of the axle.Put a piece of wood on top of the pve and tapped the sure seal into the housing.Went in perfectly Packed recess in front of the bearing with axle grease

Hopefully you tried to pack those bearings with drum brake short fiber wheel bearing grease. If all you did was fill the air gap, your running dry bearings.

Bruce,
Thanks for the reply. Tried to send a reply to You but didn'tsee it on the forum. Yes, I did my best to pack between the bearings with a screwdriver. Was thinking that heat from the bearings would cause the axle grease in the air gap would melt and move further into the bearings..

Have a new bearing and new grease seal.Best way, of course, would be to take the axle assembly to a machine shop in Seattle where we live. Tractor is at our place in the San Juans, no machine shop available here.
How do you remove the axles from the axle housing on a TE20? I used a screw driver nd worked around the bearing retainer. A slide hammer would be better, I think. Have an OTC slide hammer which I have used to remove axles from the older ford F 100 pickups we have had. Need a much larger slide hammer for removing axles on a TE 20
