Are shops that rebuild starters able to get parts to rebuild the lucas 6volt starter on my 1948 TE20? It works but needs work. Our host sells new Lucas starters for our TE20

2 tractors,

Thank you for the reply. 5 am here in the state of Washington. There are a couple of places in Seattle that have rebuilt starters for my tractors through the years I will contact them after 8 am this morning.

Steve@Advance,
Yes I have had better results having the original starters rebuilt. Acme Electric in Seattle has been
rebuilding starters for me for many years. Had an after market starter off my Farmall Cub. Acme was unable to rebuild it. They rebuilt the original starter a couple years ago and it still works perfect. I have changed all electrical systems on our older farm tractors to 12 volt negative ground plus solid state ignition.

Our TE20 has a continental 4 cylinder engine. The ignition system is delco remy but the starter is lucas.
The aftermarket starter was new but failed about a week after I installed it probably due to using 12 volts. Have used 12 volts on the original starter for 10 years

If the starter (MADE IN ENGLAND) on your TE20 is the same as the TEA-20 you may find this info helpful.

I located the faulty part for my TEA-20 (6 VOLT) and purchased TWO Torsional drives.

The below info. is what I located on the Internet, and then purchased through e-bay from the below individual:
This is an aftermarket replacement part of the day it replaces Lucas 291350 .

The applications for it are as follows Ferguson tractors 1948-50 with 25519 starter, Morris six with 25518 starter 1949-50,Standard Vanguard range 1948-50,with 25511 &25526 starter, Triumph 2000 saloon & roadster 1949 & renown 1950 with 25526 starter, & Wolseley six eighty 1949-50. This part is renowned to fail with age as the rubber de-bonds from the steel sleeve and it will fail to turn the engine over. If you own any of the above it might be worth putting one on the shelf in the garage they are becoming scarce

John Deere D,

Very through explanation of the Lucas starter. Will check to see if there are numbers on the starter I have
Thank you,
Chris

After reading John Deere D, and you saying you're in Washington State, find some shops in the BC lower mainland. When I lived along the Canadian border, people with British made whatever, sports cars, Fordsons, Leyland, David Browns- would go parts shopping in Quebec rather than an American parts counter clerk telling you the part doesn't exist. But in this millennium, the internet changed all that for the better.

Tony,
I contacted Acme Electric in Seattle. Have had this company rebuilt many starters for our tractors. You are oorrect, they have no access to parts to rebuild the Lucas starter I have.Yes, the internethas made it possible to find parts to keep our collection of antique farm tractors going I will contact a parts house in Vancouver B..C.

Thanks,

Chris
