FE35 how to loosen connecting rod.

Hi All

A quick rookie question :)
I am restoring this FE35 gasoline, and are about to remove the pistons.

How do I loosen the bolts w lockclips, at the bottom of the connectingrod?
Do I need to bend the lockclip taps, or is there a trick to it?

Kind Regards
Mark

Those are there as added protection to keep the rod bolts from loosening during operation and yes you bend them away to remove. In my opinion they are not needed considering the low rpm's that tractors have.

If they are really tight to the nut, I have an old wood chisel that I gently tap to bend the tab. Then progress to a heavy straight screwdriver. If you are careful, you should be able to reuse them.

And yes one wonders if the flimsy metal is in effect locking anything thightened this hard,... and running this slow.

Will consider omitting and use locktite, if reuse is out of the question.

Regards
Mark
