A new to me TO30 that I am doing some work on. I have the rear axle pulled out and am ready to install the new inner seal. Which direction does it go? May be a dumb question but I just want to make sure I put it in right. It has a solid face and a seemed face. Thanks for the help.

Another question, the axle shaft is a little rough where I assume the seal sits/rubs on the shaft, will the seal seal if the shaft is not perfectly smooth?

As miner says lip or opening towards oil source. Learned the hard way with a rear main seal and spent the rest of the day respliting the tractor to install a new one.

The lip or open rubber goes to the oil side. You can see the spring inside if you pull lip back a little. Put this toward the oil. Hope this helps. Just a way I always look at it.
