Just want to verify which end goes which way.

The side with the lip (upper left pic) I believe goes aft and the flat side (Lower right pic) faces the oil...

Yes?

These PTO seals are a double seal with one lip to keep the oil in and the other to keep the dirt out. Look into the seal if you can see a spring around the inside of the seal then it goes towards the oil.

Ok still not sure I described this right. The two replies seem to conflict.

The lip I am referencing is the metal "hump" seen in the upper left picture next to the part number.

This piece of metal is one solid piece that folds over to capture a "washer" type piece of metal as seen on the lower right.

The connection between the two metal parts is not a solid tight seal. It would let oil or dust in. Thus, I think it should go fwd. allowing the oil to the back side of the rubber seal.

I think this is correct, but it is not as clear as the open rubber types.

I wouldn't worry about the shape of the metal. Even if there is no coil spring in nylon , face the hollow ring to the inside, then l 'think' the lip will be facing the right way- towards the oil, too...

If you have the correct seal, it isn't a double lip seal, it is a single lip seal with a leather re-enforcement or guard. this guard goes away from the oil to the outside of the tractor and is there to prevent grass that gets wrapped around the PTO shaft from damaging the Seal Lip The lip is towards the oil. This lip runs on a Collar on the PTO shaft, the Collar should not be marked in any way or it will damage the seal lip, you can get new collars if necessary....John(UK)
