just purchased a to20. none of the 3 gauges are connected and are too rusty to work anyway. It a
has been converted to 12v. I bought a ammeter gauge at tractor supply but have no clue where to connect it. I have looked at some of the diagrams and am still confused. I have 4 wires on my switch and 3 going to the alternator. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks John, I believe my tractor is a 1950 TO20 sn 19147
Already converted to 12v but I believe it is not totally correct. 2 large wires coming from the alternator going to the + side of the starter relay. Small brown wire going to the ACC terminal on the starter key switch. It has a resistor and 12v coil inline also. Regulator must be internal to the alternator as the original voltage regulator is not connected to anything. A proper wiring diagram would help. Thanks for the information provided last week. I was able to adjust the lift and it performs well now, although still leaks down. I also have oil running out of the steering arm ports on each side of the steering box. I will be looking into that problem soon if you could provide any advice there.

Ammeter is in series, I don't think it's working, it does nothing with the turn of the key. It just bobbles around with the vibration of the engine. I do not think my alternator is charging. The original looking voltage reg is not connected to anything. The 2 large wires coming from the alt both are connected to the pos side of the starter relay,(that can't be right) the smaller wire goes to the acc on the switch. I have 12.4 volts off no load, 12.2 volts running. I'm sure the battery will drain down while running.
Most of the wiring diagrams suggested show a voltage reg or control box. Do I need to get a voltage reg or am I missing something with my current setup?

Zane,A ammeter is wired in series which means you can take the wire from your switch that goes to the battery and put it on one side of ammeter and run the wire from the other side of the ammeter to the battery,which means it's making a connection thru the ammeter or in series,if the meter reads backwards,swap the leads on the back of the meter.
