I was out tossing around some round bales and left my super M on 2nd on a slight decline for about 2 hours. When I came back out I started it up, and no movement. When I let go of the clutch it seems to bogg down and die. No movement in the loader PTO pump either. The weather is in the negatives. Any thoughts on how to solve my issue? Never happened before. Thanks!

It could possibly be in stuck two gears at once. The way to fix it would be to take the shifter off the top of the trans, jack up one wheel to relieve any tension on the gears & re-align the grooves with a large screwdriver to get it back into neutral, then re-install the shifter.

The shifter end may need welding back up & reground to specs.

If warming the transmission makes no difference my next guess would be that something has jammed into the teeth on the constant mesh gears in the front of the transmission. Try blocking the clutch down so it is released and then engage either the belt pulley or PTO and see if you can rotate the transmission backwards. If you can I would remove the belt pulley assembly or cover from the top front of the transmission cover. That will allow you to see the gears in the front of the transmission.

It's going to take hours to get the ice to thaw out. I had this happen to a JD B years ago. What I did was make a shield around the bottom of the tractor with some sheets of tin. I filled a metal bucket with charcoal and lit it up, then placed it under the tractor. Be careful when you drain the water out though. You just want to back the plug out until the water starts to seep out around the threads. I've seen a lot of people back the plug all the way out and not be able to get it back in when the grease comes gushing out. It even happened to me, once. :(

I would doubt that the transmission would freeze that hard in a couple hours after just being moved. Most likely it is stuck in two gears. Since you can move the shift lever in other gears beside second, can you get it in 1 & R slot and 4 & 5? If it is stuck in either 2 or 3, I would not expect that you could move the shift lever to get to both of the other forks, just one or the other. What happens in you let the clutch out with the transmission on neutral?

It seems like I can move it everywhere but back into 2nd gear. It just seems to bog the engine down to a stall if I let the clutch out on any of the gears or neutral. Above freezing tomorrow for the first time in a month, so I'm hoping I thaw out if that's the problem.

couple hours in below zero temps could freeze any water in transmission, would throw some heat on it for a few hours and see if it comes out of it, if so drain water from it (transmission) before it freezes again. W-6 had that problem a couple years ago.

the water does not freeze the trans, it freezes the bull gears in the diff. that is the lowest point in the tractor and have experienced this quite a few times and never have seen a trans frozen. a tiger torch under the diff for 1/2 hr. and it will move if it was frozen. the bull gears ride very close to the housing at the bottom and very little water in there will have the gears in water. also when an axle brg. fails the bull gears will actually grind out the housing. have seen this also. also pull the drain plug on diff and you will know right now if its froze , be no oil running out. and if its stuck in gear you would need to hold the clutch disengaged so the engine would run other wise it would stall. with frozen diff it will run with the clutch engaged.

Thanks for the quick responses! It was not in a heated barn but normally parked inside on level ground. I did go out and check and it will come out of 2nd gear and go into other gears, but won't go back into 2nd gear. I'm assuming since it was on a slight grade it shifted the fluid and froze something. I will try putting my nebco on it for awhile to see if it breaks anything loose.

If it was stored below freezing before, it is NOT ice causing the problem.

either the bull gears are frozen in ice from water in diff or could be stuck in two gears but not likely cause it appears you started it with clutch engaged. take tiger torch and warm diff. whats this 2nd? 2nd gear or jan 2nd?

If you can not shift it out of gear or let up on the clutch then may well have water in the transmission that froze but then where had it been parked before you left it out?? As in was it in a heated building??
