Lerned something today! All F-12 pistons are not the same. 4854DA measures 1 1/4" from pin top to piston top. 4885DA measures 1 7/16" from pin top to piston top. You can not interchange. I need one good 4854DA anyone got one laying around? oldiron29
 
I've got a couple. One is a flattop and the other is what appears to be a step head. Both measure exactly 1 1/4" from the top of the pin to the piston top. They are a 4854DA. Part #4885DCX in my parts book refers to a pump cover for the hydraulic lift. Could you have meant 4835DAY?

I have a couple extras but they are all the taller ones.
4854DA is the 5,000' kerosene high compression piston, but my book lists 4885D as the pump cover for hydraulic lift.

4835DA is standard kerosene, 4854DA is the 5,000' kero piston, 5623DA are 8,000' non kero pistons, 38739D are 5,000' kero pistons, 39187DA are 8,000' non kero pistons, 5680DX is a 5,000' non kero piston, 5694DX is a 8'000' non kero.
 
Dave has located a 4854DA piston for me.
Thanks guys for looking. I do not have the F-12 this engine came out of only the engine, #1 sleeve cranked from water and piston pitted to bad to reuse. Block #FS5502
