Broken Christmas Tree Valve

Wrapping up my 3 point hitch install and I seem to have broken my Christmas Tree valve. I think it may have been broken before hand, I bought it used.

The right had pressure port cracked. I was tightening up the hose and noticed it wasn't getting snug as quickly as the other side and then heard a pop. Like I said I think it may have been cracked and I just cracked it more.

Anyway, do I have any options other then replacing it? Maybe see if I can get it brazed? Maybe find another valve body? I would hate to have to buy another valve, they're kind of expensive.

Also, I have a live pump on a belly pump tractor with the belly pump being the reservoir. With this setup where's the pressure relief? I don't think the Christmas tree has anything built in, does the pump have the relief built in?

Dont know what tractor you are talking about, but if
it is a SH/SM,the relief is inside the reservoir
apart of the Lift all control.

And as far as a crack in the PRESSURE side of that
Christmas tree valve,I would not use it. It could
explode under a large load with max hyd pressure
against it. Shrapnel!!! :(

Agreed. That valve is good only for internal parts now.

I would not trust even the best brazing job to hold under 1200PSI. Plus you couldn't see the original crack, what makes you think that there aren't any other cracks?

For less than $100 you can get a simple open-center generic spool valve (NOT a log splitter valve BTW). Sure it's not OEM but it will do the job.

Sorry for not replying sooner.

I've located a parts valve with a good body. So with my spool and the new to me body I should be in business.

I know I could have purchased a new valve but I like the original look plus I have all the hoses sized for this setup. Those custom hoses get expensive quickly.

Re pressure relief: This is an "upgraded" SM. As in it shipped with a belly liftall. It's since had a engine driven pump installed and used the belly pump as a reservoir. So I don't have any pressure relief. looks like I can add a prince adjustable relief valve pretty easily though.

I done the same thing, got the valve from surplus center.

The by-pass return is tee'd into the drain port

Yeah, that's what I'm planning on doing.

I think I'm just going to add another tee to the fill pipe to run it back to there.

On mine that would have given other issues so I went into the bottom.

It is pretty congested up top plus the higher the fill the harder to pour oil in.

Yeah, I know.

Someday I would like to remove the pump from the belly reservoir and install a plate like the M&W kit. Then I could use the ports on the side as returns.
