Hey guys!

Still tinkering on my sisters 606...its got the C-221 engine. Anyway, I just changed the oil on it. Used 15w-40 Rotella like I do in all my other tractors and wasn't getting a reading on the oil pressure gauge. I disconnected the oil line to the gauge and cranked the engine over and oil shot out. I had a new 80lb universal gauge so I put that on and its only reading about 25lbs at idle with the engine cold. Its just a cheap gauge though so I don't know how accurate it is... Should I be worried or is there anything I should check? It does have OIL pressure tellite in the cluster gauge...it comes on with the key and goes out within a few seconds of starting the engine. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. Engine runs great with no funny noises. Thanks for any help!!

According to the parts manual that model uses the pot metal oil filter base. Inside that base are three springs and valves. They originally were fiber flat round valves and did a really lousy job. Could well be your low oil pressure problem. They changed to a metal half ball valve. Much better but still far from great. Also changed the pressure spring to get more pressure. Don't get springs in wrong hole as some have done. Gauge is supposed to be a 45 psi .

Oil pressure at 1800 rpm should be in the 30-40 psi range.

Not sure what the deal was last night...fired it up this morning and had much better pressure readings this morning. 40+lbs at 1800RPM so I'm guessing all is well. Will swap this 80lb gauge out for a 45lb one. Thanks guys!

What is oil pressure at hot idle?

Not sure...haven't gotten it hot yet since changing gauges. I ran it maybe an hour the other day with the old gauge that wasn't working. Got it warm enough to open the thermostat.

I wonder if a 460 uses a 0-45 or 0-75lb gauge? Maybe I'm being paranoid and just need to switch over to the 0-45lb gauge?

My 460 LP uses a 0-45 psi gauge, and it appears to be original equipment. Usually it makes about 35 psi at fast idle, hot. Hugh
