International 2444 stalling/not starting

Hey, I am a pretty amateur mechanic and am having trouble diagnosing what's going on (I can turn a wrench, but diagnosis is my weak point) My tractor starts and runs just fine when cold, but after it gets hot it will stumble and stall and eventually will not start. I checked the spark, it seems good, so I don't think it's the coil. When it won't start I can get it to fire with ether, but it won't stay running. If it sits for a day or so, it starts right up again and the whole thing repeats. Any idea how I can proceed to narrow this down?

Hi as Allen said, problem would appear to be fuel system. Take fuel line off at inlet to carb and check fuel flow. I am not sure if this model has a fuel pump or not. If no fuel pump then the fuel should flow the full of the fuel line, If there is a fuel pump then you will have to attempt to start engine to see fuel flow. There maybe an inlet filter in carb or there maybe junk in tank clogging outlet.
Sometimes blowing compressed air back towards the fuel tank will blow junk out of tank outlet but this is only short term fix.

You should be able to hear the fuel pump running, making a clinking sound. When mine stops running the engine will not run unless the fuel tank is over 3/4 full.

The other thing that may cause the problem is the carburetor shut off solenoid. you should hear it click on and off with the key switch.

Mine does the same thing when the weather gets warm. Have a friend who has a 424, and his does it also. He keeps his full of gas, and problem goes away. I can run mine all winter long, and never have it stall. I think it is vapor lock. I am going to put high temp. insulating sleeves over my gas lines, and see if solves the problem.

Do a quick visual check inside the tank with a flashlight. I had similar problems with my 2424 - turned out to be a small chunk of what looked like a golden rod plant stem. Eventually it would get sucked into the outlet at the bottom of the tank - at least I guessed that was the problem. Once I got it out of the tank, the problem went away.
