Farmall H steering problem

After restoring my H the steering became very stiff. It worked fine before. I did not make any repairs to the steering only cleaning and adding lube. The tightness is steady and does not act like something catching or grating. Any ideas?

Jack up the tractor so the front end is off the ground. Take note of how much up & down free play there is. You may have a thrust bearing worn out at the bottom of the steering shaft.
Our H steers SO much better after replacing the bearing.

My IH H had wobble when on a hard surface and the steering wheel would go in and out a little when turning and the problem was the upper bearing.

I had the same problem after a restoration. Grease the steering shaft fittings. There are two locations. It solved my problem.

Did you take off any of the brackets that hold the steering assembly in place? I put one back on upside down recently and it all worked, but like yours was stiff. It was a bracket halfway down the steering shaft.
