Farmall 706 - 2250 Loader Pressure

OK, the loader works and I have been able to use it. If any of you remember, I only have one remote on my 706, so I plumbed the remote hydraulics through an external spool valve and then into the loader.

I used this valve - http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200314957_200314957

The problem I have now is the loader is not lifting up to it's rated capacity. It can lift about 800-1000lbs and then it just stalls out.

I would like to look at adjusting the pressure relief valve on the tractor.

Am I right in thinking I should adjust the pressure relief on the spool valve all the way up? That way, the whole system will rely on the relief on the tractor. Then I can adjust the tractor pressure relief to the correct pressure and be done.

A 706 only puts out 1450 psi.You can install a reliefe from a 1466,and get over 2000 psi.But you may have a worn pump.In that case,a bigger' reliefe valve wont help.Run a pressure test to determine condition.Easy to do.Simply hook a (minimum) 2000 lb pressure gauge(I use a 5000 lb) to a remote.Work handle and read pressure.

Your valve is fine.Your tractor pump only puts out 12gpm.A pto pump will do 20 gpm and a lot more pressure. There is a 17 gpm pump you can install in your tractor and the 1466/86 relief to get mure out of the tractor.By the time you spend lots of money on parts...Just go with a pto pump.

GPM has *NOTHING* to do with lift capacity.

PSI is what gives you your lift capacity, but you can't "adjust" the problem away. As stated before the relief valve is non-adjustable.

1450PSI should be more than enough to lift whatever you can safely lift with that loader, so odds are you aren't even making that much pressure.

I second getting a pressure gauge and checking the current status of the tractor's hydraulic system.

What I am thinking is the adjustable pressure relief on the external spool valve is adjusted too low. I am thinking that the pressure relief on the external valve is letting loose before the hydraulic pump can get up to 1450 PSI.

I will test the pressure with a gauge, but I just didn't want to be chasing my tail since there are effectively two pressure relief valves on the tractor now.

The 706 would have been factory shipped with a 1600 psi relief valve.

Like you asked, just adjust the relief valve on your remote to the maximum. The system pressure will then be regulated by the relief valve in the tractor.

A power beyond would be my bet. Then the external valve could be plumbed into that line so you would still have your SCV out the back. Then by checking you pressure and correcting you will lift all you can carry safely.

That was my thought.

Thanks.
