IH 234 odd serial number?

Hello, I was trying to do research on this little tractor that i got running, but could not find anything online about it.

Sorry, I cant get the second picture to show right side up!

I've got a 234 also. I don't have a loader but have a 4 ft rototiller and 5 ft mower for the 3 pt hitch. I remember looking up my serial number and don't remember the exact year but I'm thinking it was around 1975 plus or minis a couple of years. Over all I like the tractor but at 60 years old its getting to be a hard tractor to get on and off. Not sure what will happen if I ever needs parts as its a Mitsubishi diesel and its kind of an odd ball tractor from a numbers standpoint.

How many hours does yours have? I took a chance on this tractor, it sat in a barn for about 8 years because the hydraulic pump wouldn't pressurize. One of the glow plugs was screwed in about three turns, so it wouldn't fire. got all the little hiccups figured out, threads chased, pump rebuilt, and it runs great. fires up on the first try on days 40 degrees and up. Fires always on the second time even when its below freezing. Any idea what these little tractors are worth?

Nick, I have an "IRON SOLUTIONS" Spring 2005 Dealer Guide that shows the 234. It shows your SN #10696 as a 1986 Year.

Also Tractor Data shows Case/IH SN #10454 as first 1986 model. I read your SN # as 10696 so that also indicates a 1986.

Nick, Hope I have given you correct info. IH 234 data shows SN 8010 - SN 8646 as 1982 - 1985 model.
Had to go to Case/IH listing to find your SN 10696 as 1986 model. But as you know and is plain in your picture your serial plate plainly shows International Harvester ?????

Now I am confused along with you.

Now you see why I was confused, I have checked Tractorhouse, and other credible sources, and about 5-6 hours googling different ways to try to get something that matched up. the serial number that is not stamped (in black print) i could not find anything close to those number/letter combos.

Did Mitsubishi take over after the 1985 year???

Mine has 640 hours on it. I've been wondering what they are worth also as I have toyed with the idea of trading it for something more older person friendly. I got the tractor from my dad when he passed away. He bought it in the early 90's. Don't know how much he paid for it.

Wow yours has really low hours, mine is actually at 1640 hours, and still running strong!

I am currently rebuilding a 234. I hope I can find all the parts I need. Just got the head tore down and looks like I will need valves and guides. I hope with a valve job and rings it will be good to go. I will have to rewire everything. Kubota basically uses the same glow plug system so I plan on trying to copy that onto this tractor.
