My throttle lever requires a hard bump to make rpm changes. I've checked to make sure it's free to travel and found the input shaft on the governor is sticking. I've picked up another governor that works freely. Do I have to have the governor in any certain place to replace it. I know the drive gets timed to the cam and idler and all of that but to just R&R the governor is it needed? Thanks, Mike

First off, what tractor?

Cub, A, B, C type tractors with magnetos, it's absolutely critical to get the governor gear timed exactly right, because you can't rotate a magneto enough to make up for being a tooth off. With a distributor it is not so critical, but it is a pain if you have to re-time the tractor from scratch.

Second off, have you tried to free up the governor shaft? It should loosen up with some penetrating oil and some elbow grease.

Sorry, It's a Cub with a distributor. Tried penetrating oil numerous times but it's kind of hard to reach with the tank on.

I guess I'll try lubing with the tank off and disconnecting the linkage to work it better. Mike
