1000 balanced head wobble box

Had a complete bearing failure on my 1000 balanced head sickle mower. The bottom bearing of the wobble box went out and I am unable to get the allen head bolt out of the bottom of the wobble box to take it apart the rest of the way. Anyone drill it out before? I am a little reluctant to drill it out since the retainer it holds is no longer available from CNH. I twisted off a hex socket at the base of the socket trying to get the thing out. Bolt is fine but tired of ruining allen wrenches on this sucker. I tried heating it with a torch, cooling it down with PB blaster, and hitting it with a hammer to break it loose. No dice! Thanks for the input.

Are you working with pin #21?

If so, the Allen screw doesn't "hold" anything.

Once the pin with tapered area, #21, is driven in place, the Allen screw is screwed in so it protrudes a bit and the cutterbar presses against the Allen screw, holding the pin upward into place.

They are Loctited in place. How hot did you heat it... use an oxy-accet torch?

Once you get the Allen screw out, you then attach a slide hammer puller to the threads in the pin and yank it out of the bobble box frame.

My Allen screw was recessed a bit. The Allen screw does need to be removed first to get thE wobble box apart, correct?

got it out. BIL heated it with an acetylene torch. I broke an Allen socket and twisted an Allen wrench and he broke two Allen sockets, one of which was impact rated, in the process. I then used an 1 1/2" socket over the pin and put a 1/2" bolt through it. As I tightened the bolt it pulled the pin out. I figured a slide hammer wouldn't have the power to remove the pin.

Confirm this to be sure, but, IIRC, he when you put the screw back in it needs to be above the pin by a bit more than the pin is recessed, so it holds the pin firmly in place.
