International 424 Start/Run Issue

Guys - need some help/guidance. I have an international 424 Gas tractor with an issue. The tractor will turn over/fire, and run with the key in the "start" position. When the key is released to the "run" position the tractor dies. I was thinking it was an ignition switch, so I replaced the switch, and no luck, exact same issue. Any ideas where else to look? Would really appreciate any help.

It has a faulty ignition circuit between the ignition switch and the coil. There is a resistor in the circuit. (It is probably a resistor wire) that operates when the key is in the on or run position. This resistor could be a discrete object like on mid 60s Chevys. The starter solenoid has two small wires attached one causes the starter to spin, the other (probably labeled I) goes to the coil and attaches where the wire from the Ignition switch also attaches if it is the resistor wire type, or to the coil side of the ballast resistor if it is a discrete resistor. The wire from the Solenoid lets full battery voltage get to the coil when cranking (thus it starts) and stops providing volts when the cranking stops. (thus it dies because the resistor is "open" Bad. Jim

Jim - thank you - I will look to see if it has a separate resistor, or a resistor wire. If it is a resistor wire, then I assume that is something I can buy and rewire then? If it is the resistor, I will replace.

Thanks again for the assistance.

If it is a wire, it can be replaced with a discrete (cheap) 1965 chevy bellair 6 cylinder resistor. Just wire it with 12ga stranded copper from the ignition switch I terminal (now going to the coil)the copper wire and resistor are in series with each other and connect where the existing resistor wire is connected.
If it has a discrete resistor, the chevy resistor can be a direct replacement. Jim

Joel - can you hear the electric fuel pump clicking when the tractor dies? If not, its dying because the fuel pump is getting turned off some how when you move the key.
