Regulator L terminal bad?

Went out to visit the folks yesterday. Seems last week Dad went to get the 400 and wood trailer, tried to start it a couple of times, then it went flat DEAD. Usually it fires right up no matter what the temperature is.

Long story short, we traced the wiring and found the instrument panel got its power off the L terminal on the regulator.

There was 12.5V at the solenoid. There was 12.5V at the BAT terminal on the regulator. There was 12.5V at the L terminal on the regulator. There was 12.5V at the key switch. Still, there was no power at the instrument panel.

Took the key switch out and "hot wired" it. Still nothing.

Finally, I bypassed the regulator by bugging the wire from the L terminal on to the BAT terminal of the regulator. Everything worked!

Ever seen the L (load?) terminal on the regulator go bad like this?
