460 Farmall block questions

I have a 460 serial #9534, that has a nonsleeved block in it, can anybody tell me if this was possibly the original block, I thought all 460"s where sleeved, also anybody got any idea where to get overbore pistons for it?

All 460's were sleeved from the factory, maybe someone put a combine engine it it. The only non sleeved 6 cylinder gas tractor engine were in the 806 and 856 gas tractors.

your right they are sleeved.
last question... no as u need to give the piston size it has in it now.

Were you able to find the serial number and engine size that is stamped into the block? The numbers were stamped into the flat machine surface behind the oil filter mounting base when the engine was used in a tractor. When the engine was in the combine the numbers were stamped on the vertical machine pad on the upper right front corner of the block above the governor and just below the cylinderhead.

I did find those numbers above the governor they are 403C 16433 also the block number is 379815R1, have any idea where to find oversized pistons for it?

3.56 is the standard bore for the C263. How much overbore are you looking for?

Since under normal circumstances this is a sleeved engine there was never a need for overbore pistons, so you're not likely to find any without a LOT of research. I mean taking the specs, sitting down with the various piston manufacturer catalogs, and going through one by one, page by page.

You could try Egge Machine Company. They've got quite a selection.

There are two alternatives here for a quick solution:

1. Bore out to 3.75 for a C291 piston.
2. Bore the engine for sleeves.

Their were many IH sleeve less engines.460 with sleeves was a 3 9/16 bore. They made 403 IH combine 263cid no sleeves at 39/16and also a 301 3 13/16 bore. You need to know witch crank shaft you have before looking for pistons.460 had a 3 11/16 stroke the others are 4 25/64 stroke.I have made a 301 by takeing out the sleeves and honeing the block or have it bored for oversize pistons.

if it was a complete combine engine swap from a 403, itll be a 263ci sleeveless block. if its the 4.39 stroke crank, its the same as a 301, so all youd have to do is find a set of slugs for a 301. casting number on the crank will id the crank.
