1066 Hydro Fluid Filter Change

Do I have to drain the hydro fluid before changing the filter? I have had the problem of air in the lines so I overfilled the fluid level by about five gallons. Will this cause it to loose more fluid when I change the filter. I would think not, maybe loose a little fluid due to pressure and just the setting of the filter? Now, is it a special filter, or are they carried by parts houses??

Bpth hydralic and hydro transmission filters can be changed without draining. Both filters are available at Napa(that's where I buy em)Hydralic filter is #1253,dont remember the transmission filter#.When you change the main hydralic filter, place a 5 gallon bucket under as you will loose about a gallon of oil.And it will continue to slowly run till the cover is replaced. The smal transmission filter, just unscrew the cannister and stuff a new element in.

Ooops, now I am confused. The Hydro filter is on the right side of her belly under the round plate, right? Now where is the Tranny filter?

The transmission filter is on the right side.Higher up and further foreward-ahead of the brake pedals.Canister type, houseing is about the size of a soup cam.Has a 6 sided top to accomodate a wrench/socket for removal. You need to buy a book! Buy it right here from YT.

Is it possible that some models of the 1066 does not have a transmission fluid filter?? Because on mine higher up and further forward in front of the brake pedals sits my battery. I have searched all over the right side for any canister type housing and only find the flat plate with two wing nut type bolts holding it on, which I assume is the regular hydo fluid filter.

Is it Hydrostatic drive or gear drive?

Jim, I am now told it is not a Hydro but a regular gear drive. It has two shift handles on the right side as you sit in the seat. Sorry for the confusion, maybe that is the reason there is only one filter, the one on the right side.
