Super M Hydraulics

Has anyone ever seen a Super M with a belly pump and an engine pump hooked together using the belly pump reservoir? Was there a conversion package of some sort to be able to do this?

Sure. My Dad's was hooked up that way for several years.

The biggest problem he had was the belly pump reservoir wasn't big enough. The cylinders on the manure spreader endgate would suck it dry. When the gate bounced it would send a shock back through the hoses into the pump and shear the tiny woodruff key on the pump drive gear.

This of course left the tractor dead in the field with a spreader load of manure because the pump drives the ignition. On at least one occasion we unloaded the spreader via "ground drive" on the end of a tow chain.

Probably for normal hydraulic stuff you'd be okay. This spreader was really way too much for the tractor.

Are you sure it IS a Super M?? There are LOTS of non-super Ms with an arrangement such as you describe, and no, it is NOT factory.

char lynn sold a live pump package for that. had a live pump and a block off plate for the belly pump to convert belly unit to a resevoir by removing the pump from the housing. here is a pic of the block off plate.

My M was hooked that way when I got it. As others have stated, it wasn't enough juice. Mine is now through the belly pump and to an additional reservoir bolted to the frame rail. I've got fluid for days now.

Several types of add on systems were sold over the years. pictures show some sold as a package and one a example of whatever the owner decided to rig up.

Contrary to popular belief, the belly pump reservoir WILL hold enough oil to fully operate a Farmhand F11 loader. Of course, those big, long cylinders are 2 way cylinders, so MOST of the hydraulic oil needed is already IN the cylinders.

Just fill the belly pump reservoir to capacity, work those cylinders as far as they will go, and then top off the reservoir again. Repeat the process until the cylinders will make a full stroke. You will NOT overfill the reservoir.

Can't help if you want installation instructions. All I have is s listing of what kits were available.
