What do I have here? I was told that it would fit on my A. I think that it is either a planter or fertilizer system or part of.

Thanks
James

This is a planter unit from a Farmall Cub. If you'll look in the third picture, the two little gears on the left were to take slack out of the drive chain as it came from the drive sprocket. The Cubs were driven from the right bull gear (seated), and the A's were driven from the left. I don't think this will fit your A. The mounting bolt holes are probably too close together on the pad and too close from the pad to the rear bolt at the drive sprocket. A's are bigger tractors, so things will be farther apart. I hope this has been some help, Todd.

To add a little to what Todd said, that drive assembly is for a double seed hopper. We had one on a SA, you could plant peas and corn at the same time.

This is a universal planter hopper mount and I do not know if it was for an A or Cub. The mounting surface has been welded up so it is not original. By changing out the box drive cog on the top different planter boxes could be used including rotating bottom boxes. IH had at least three planter boxes including the two plate box described by someone else and two different rotating bottom boxes. One was specifically designed for non delinted (fuzzy)cotton seed.

Would it be possible for someone here to add some pictures or give me a model number to go by? One other question is it worth getting back into running shape or would it cost me more in parts than it is worth.

Ebay should have some of those. Search for: Super A planter attachment, or super a side dresser. Should find some examples like your looking for.

You need to find the entire set including both planter and dry fertilizer hopper mounts as well as the ground units (drill openers and pack wheels). and the drive cogs from the rear wheels. You need to include the hoppers with the purchase. The unit you have is very incomplete. Planter hoppers can be scarce but fertilizer hoppers are available.

What model number or a couple of pictures to go by sure would help. And I have read it is for a Cub, Super A or maybe an A which one for sure?

James

As shipped from IH, it fit a Cub. Someone has modified it, welded on a different mounting bracket. What it fits now, if anything, is anyone's guess. You have a very small percentage of a planter. I view it as some spare parts for another planter.

What do you want it to fit? (A vs. Super A?) What do you want to plant?

I have both a Cub and an A. The Cub has just got cultivators under it and the A has a drawbar. I am new to this but I would think that it would go with Cub with cultivators since they both work together right? I did not want this to go to scrap since it is part of history. And I would like to get working if I can.

I forgot to add that I have just a small garden but could plant Corn, Beans, Peas, Okra and such or just to try it out, plant the whole garden in one seed.
Thanks for taking the time to teach me something.

Maybe this will help, reference a manual on Rudi's Cub manual server.
http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Cu...Blackland and Cub-172 Runner Planters 8-8-52/

You have a (modified) mounting frame like this:

with the brace:

and the duplex hopper base like this (bottom one):

Page-25.jpg

you are missing:

the hopper and plates:

Page-05.jpg

the runner/presswheel assembly and seed tube, everything here below the hopper:

You reuse your universal mounting frames that you currently use with your cultivators to end up with something that looks about like this:

The other stuff in that manual is optional. I think you can see why I am suggesting that you currently have a few spare parts, far short of that you need to plant anything.
