IH Model 434

We have a Model 434 that we use on our hunting lease for bushoging, discing, planting, log hauling etc. etc. It has a serial number of B31304 and I am trying to find a new water pump for it. I also would like to know when it was made. It looks about as old as I am! It is a beast and hard to drive as it has nothing but you power steering!

Hi, see http://users.telenet.be/IH-SBWD6/IHnummersGB.htm for serial numbers.

I assume it is a BD-154 Diesel?

There were a couple different part numbers for water pump depending on application of BD-154 and I believe if the water pump had a thermostat bypass or not.
See caseih.com parts at:
http://partstore.caseih.com/us/parts-search.html#epc::mr50025ar426816

Try googling 703820R97 sometimes they appear on ebay.
DO NOT try changing the drive shaft and bearing without a press or the casting will break.

Thanks for the info. I went to the link but it was GB serial numbers. This tractor was, I think, made in US and currently resides in Louisiana. I think it was built between 1948 and 1953 but I cannot find a reference.
Thanks for the tip about the press.

Hi, the B in the serial number indicates it was manufactured in UK. Most of B414,434,444 tractors that are in the US were manufactured in UK then tractor frames were shipped on a crate to Louisville, KY and final assembly was done there. There are some difference as these will have Delco electrical systems vs Lucas, the front axles and steering maybe different especially if they had PS. The tires and rims are also US made. There are also some in Northern US that may have been bought in Canada and trucked into US. These ones were complete assembly in UK with Lucas electrical systems etc.

So on your serial number plate it should say either made in UK or assembled in US.

According to external_link 434 was made from 1966 to 1971 in Doncaster, UK. Neighbor bought one in 1966 and we bought one in 1969.

Hope this helps
