Progress.....

Here is my (now identified) 1951 Farmall Cub back into the work space post garage sale. I am still figuring out some lighting and sitting (stool) arrangements, but we are basically all set. Even made $200 on the garage sale basically giving away stuff. Thanks for the help the other night, I could not get her to rollover with a 12 volt connection to starter. It turned out to be a poor connection between started and starter switch. Removing the switch and cleaning the connection on the starter it rolled over nice with jumper cables touching the connection.

I removed regulator and coil last evening. Instead of guessing on what is bad and what is not (I was told tractor sat up for 10 years) I am going to take the $200 from garage sale and invest in new electronic components...any thoughts? Also, are there any "kits" out there that come complete....coil, regulator, spark plug wires, points, condensor....basically? This might save me time and money. Just for fun, how would one test a 6 volt coil? Oh, and I am keeping her 6 volts.

Before you start spending oney see if it will start and run with what you have you can always get new parts as you work thru the system. Make sure the generator works first. You can spin it over by hand with pos lead from meter to ground and other lead to "A" term on the gen. Set the meter on the 1v or less scale then spin pulley and if you get a reading its probably good. If not take to a gen shop. You can take a plug out and have the wire going to it if theres fire and you have gas coming out of the plug on the carb it will run.

I'm with Gene - try it with what you have. The 6 volt ignition components from 40 years ago were very robust. You will probably be surprised.

You are going to need that $200 to get the generator rebuilt and get a regulator that works. Then you will need another 45 bucks in six months when the China regulator poops out. The cycle will continue.
