Trying to make her spin..... cub

Okay, I have her in the garage (pics to follow). I am trying to make her spin once or twice. Carb is off, so it wont start, just want to her her spin.

It is 6 volt pos ground. Battery is dead and gone. I already removed it. I am trying to connect jumper cables to it from my truck. Going to the starter. Nothing happens....

What am I doing wrong? I heard you could use either the pos or neg and it does not need to be ground?

Any thoughts....neg to starter post and pos to ?

Ok so do this and this tanks little to no no thinking. Set a 12 volt battery in place of the 6 volt one. Hook up the battery cables and try it out. Will hurt the starter or other things just to spin it over

Are you sure the starter isnt locked up i would loosen it up to check. 12v will spin a Cub fast im redoing one now going back to original 6v pos gnd just like it was when new. Ground doesent make any difference to the starter just make sure the wires going from the starter shoulkd be disconected to not feed 12v into the system regs and gens dont like that.

Hook your cable up like you said neg to the starter post and then take the pos and touch the starter body DO NO HOOK IT UP just touch it and the starter should roll if it is not set up. The starter does not care if you hook pos to the post it is you other items in the electrical system

I was thinking of a JD starter. That's right on a Cub you have to use the starter switch. Forgot that worked on mine yesterday and forgot today

I do not know what sins have been committed to reactor actor prior to my purchase. When I looked at it, the man selling it did a quick jump from a 12 volt battery to the dead 6 volt battery (against my advisement). It rolled over and I felt that was all I needed to hear...... It sat up for 10 years so I figured I would replace alot of electric components. Anyway... Now it won't rollover.... So I will unbolt the starter and touch the Lis to the stud and see if it spins. Any thoughts or advice on starter removal? On an 8n there is a trick about not letting screws cone iut I'd starter... Is this the same on a cub?

I pulled starter and connected positive jumper cable from 12 volt truck to starter post and touched negative jumper cable from 12 volt truck to the starter. I made sure the starter tab was making connection. I sparked where cables made contact, but no spin. I guess that is good news and bad news? Any advice on rebuilding or fixing a starter.

Oh, the truck was not running when I did this test...I assume that is okay>

The Cub starter has a SWITCH on it.

You need to pull the lever after you connect the battery cables.

Odds are you didn't connect the cables carefully and just created a dead short, which is why you got the spark.

The one jumper cable clamp has to be touching ONLY the stud, nothing else, or it will short out. This is very difficult to do with a big clunky jumper cable clamp, and the starter rolling around on the floor.. It is very easy to touch the switch body with the clamp and short out.

Have you tried to spin the starter by hand? It is easy to do.
