Farmall 400 Fires then Dies

Hey guys! Last couple time I"ve had the 400 out, it will fire, run for a second and then die. It will do this a few times and then take off and run just fine. Does not matter what position the throttle is in. Has all new plugs and wires, new points, condenser, rotor and cap.

I had the hoods off today and noticed some good sized cracks in my manifold. Could this be my culprit (creating a fuel vacuum loss out the manifold)? Just figured I would get some other opinions before I ordered a new manifold.

Thanks!

Some of those motors do not need any choke to fire up, but are cold natured enough that they need a little choke until warmed up. Try feeding it a little choke for a minute or two and see if this helps. Don't even try to move it until it has warmed up for a minute or two.

Its not a new to me tractor...I've never needed any choke; warm or cold. I'm wondering if the cracked/rusted through manifold is finally bad enough to lose enough vacuum to cause this symptom or do I need to look farther?

gas or diesel? take it as a gas model which manifold is cracked? take it your talking intake. definite yes if the intake is cracked. no if exhaust is cracked. will start without an exhaust manifold even on. look at the plugs and read them. check on the fuel supply into carb.have seen where the needle sticks in the seat and a "tap" on side of carb and seat drops and all is good.

I would think an intake leak would be worst during startup, also since no choke is required you have plenty of fuel.

Electrical issue.
