IH 560 Shimmy

I just got my 560 gas running descent. But when I was driving it home from helping a neighbor I shifted to fifth gear and had such a shimmy in the front end I could not run it in fifth. I have new tires on the fromt. I have not checked the archives as yet, but was wondering if there were any thoughts on this! Thanks in advance

MY H NF did that for several yrs, I rebuilt the bolster and put in a new sector gear, nothing helped. Needed new front tires so put them on and then shimmy went away.

The narrow front shimmy issue can be caused by several things:
Tire with out of round (runout) of the rubber, ossible cord separation.
Wheel on hub mount out of round causing the runout.
Worn bolster pivot bearings and worn sector system.
The jacking and blocking up of the front to test these areas of looseness, or runout is the easiest way. Jim

560 is all together different than H or M. The 560 is a rack and pinion set up. Most likely the rack needs to be move closer to pinion. It is in an eccentric sleeve that can be turned to move the rack closer to the pinion to stop shimmy.

Could be a number of things.
Pedestal bearings and others as mentioned.
Possible others.........
Lock nut on the top of the pedestal shaft loose
Disc that actuates the power steering valve loose
Splined U joint worn
Other U joints worn
Set screw loose that locates the worm into the power steering piston
Power steering rack/pinion teeth worn

Mine was the set screw. (your's may differ)Pulled the front bolster to remove the power steering piston to gain access to the set screw.
