Hey guys, the MTA won't seem to move. a ball came loose and cracked the trans housing so my father in law put it in the barn years ago. they drove the tractor into the barn but now it seems locked up. I was thinking maybe the brakes are hung up from sitting? I was going to get in there today, I need to move the tractor, any thoughts or tips? could the transmission be locked up from sitting, im sure there is no more fluid in it? thanks for the help guys.~Anthony

If the brakes were "on"---applied, very likely the discs are rusted on the splines. Release the brakes & hit the adjustment bolts with a large hammer, driving the bolt into the brake housing. Shouldn't take much---don't get carried away --just light taps should do it.

I have had the disk brakes lock up on several of my Farmalls over the years usually if you can ever roll or pull tractor backwards just a bit they will unlock.got a 504 with sticky brakes on it now.

If the brakes, back the adjusting bolts out and loosen the five bolts retaining the covers. Sitting for long periods without moving in some climates gets rust in some transmission parts even with oil. Not uncommon for the brakes to stick though. Make sure the transmission is in neutral and the bull gear is not still wedged.

If you have another tractor or a winch you can jack up the wheels and put tin under them and it will slide short distances. This has worked for me when I have bought tractors with locked transmissions due to ice in the winter.
