IPTO Questions

I made the puller and tore the PTO apart on my SMTA. The adjusting bolt towards the front of the tractor was broke. Which band is the last you remove? (I would call it back, but it is towards the front of the tractor) Maybe that is why things stopped working?

How do you know when the bands are worn out? This is the only spot I see where things are pretty smooth. Is that fine or does it need replacement?

the bands are pretty spendy to replace. The one you picture looks pretty good. When I pulled mine apart a few years back I changed the brake and power bands around. I wasn't as concerned about breaking as I was not having any slip

The band is a 1/2 to 2/3 or so worn. I would find a clutch shop specializing in transmission or heavy equipment repair to see if I could get then relined. New are a substantial chunk of change.
If the adjusting screws were tightened to the point that they were beginning to be down inside the jamb nut (under the cover) they are toast. Jim

Pakes Engine and Machine in Janesville, WI can reline brakes. (Yes, that was a plug. ) I am going to check with them on Monday. I also have a source for another used IPTO from a 300. I might just go take that apart tomorrow to see how the bands look and to pull the adjusting bolt from it.
