IH 2504 or JD 2020. Opinions please.

Ok, so I have an IH 2504 4cyl gas and either a 2000 or 3000 loader (not sure which one it is). I am in the process of fixing quite a few things. I bought it for $650 but probably stills needs $2000 - 2500 in fixing.

I have an opportunity to purchase a John Deere 2020 4cyl diesel with a model 48 loader. Everything seems to be in working order. Maybe needs a few hundred in fix ups.

Which tractor would you guys rather own and why? Thanks.
 
The 2504 because I am just a red tractor guy. I have a Farmall 504 now and it is a great tractor. I USE TO HAVE AN ih 504 UTILITY DIESEL AND IT WAS A GREAT TRACTOR TOO.
 
I know nothing about that red one but I was a Deere guy in the 2 cylinder aera but when they went away they lost me. I drove a 2020 when I worked at a fertilizer plant a few years back and it was a terablie handling tractor My 4000 Ford that was a direct competor exact same power and same gears was twice thje tractor. Do not buy that Deere.
 
I have driven 2 2020's each for a significant amount of time over a 29 year period. They handle very well. If I wasn't a IH collector, I would have a 2020, no question about it. The only JD of that era that I like better is a 3020. Sounds like yours were beat to death.
 
JD 1010's 2010's and 2020's were a tad bit scary,
they weren't one of Deere's prouder moments. Lumped
a lot of stuff in a small package, hard to work on
and take a lot of those precious green plated solid
gold parts. We had an A and a 24T, the folks that
did some of our service work and sold us parts used
to be a John Deere dealer, they advised us to stay
away from the new generation Dubuque tractors
(10110, 2010 and 2020)
 
Why limit yourself to just one ??????
Fix them both !!!

45.90hp drawbar and 54.09hp PTO

IH 2504 1961 thru 1968
41hp drawbar and 46hp PTO

IH 2544 1968 thru 1973
46 hp drawbar and 53hp pto

Figure out which one fits your needs the best, & then sell or parade the other.
